The Development of E2 Management Consulting AG
E2 Management Consulting AG was founded in 1993 by Daniel Rufer and Oliver Schmid‑Schönbein, who brought together their experience in environmentally oriented management consulting. Both had already been active in this field for several years and took part in the Swiss öbu action group on “Ecobalance for a company”, led by Arthur Braunschweig and Ruedi Müller‑Wenk: Daniel through his work with Canon (Switzerland) AG and Ernst Schweizer AG, Hedingen, and Oliver as a representative of the Swiss Bank Corporation (SBV).
In 1998, Arthur Braunschweig joined E2 as the third Managing Partner, followed in 2010 by Gaby Oetterli Janutin as the fourth partner.
In October 2025, E2 expanded its partnership team, welcoming Ananda S. Millard, Panu Kärävä and Rolf Huwyler, bringing the firm to a complementary team of six senior partners.
Dr. Daniel Rufer †
Daniel Rufer was a founding partner of E2 Management Consulting AG. Born 1945. Degree, doctorate and lecturer in engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zürich. Work experience in engineering, followed by an MBA at INSEAD, Fontainebleau.
Five years as Division Manager for the Institute for Business Science, Zürich. Four years of establishing and managing a Strategic Consulting Company. Mandates for board and executive management as well as consulting and lecturing in Environmental Management, Quality Control and Communication. In the last years he focused on the environmental analysis (LCA) of energy production alternatives, especially solar panels.
Dr. Daniel Rufer passed away in October 2016, subsequent to an accident.
